The one that ends up in a child's room

Junior swimmers and young gymnasts collect faster than adults — club galas, county meets, end-of-season presentations, three or four a term. By eleven a child can easily have more medals than a parent who has run for a decade.

This is the second of the two Be Awesome cuts and the one that tends to go above a desk or a bed rather than in a hallway. Mount it at their eye level, not yours; the point is that they can reach it.

If it is going in a child's room, mount it low. A display at adult eye level turns into decoration; at their height it stays something they add to themselves.

What it is actually made of

The medal hanger is AISI 304 stainless steel — food-grade, marine-grade, the same material as a good kitchen worktop — at 2.5-3 mm depending on which width you take. It will outlast the collection on it.

Medals sit on a single continuous bar. No hooks means no ceiling on the count and no gaps when a medal comes off.

Mounting

Everything is in the box: stainless standoffs, screws, wall plugs and a paper template. Mark through the template, drill, done — about ten minutes.

Adding a second one

Most people eventually do. Mounted directly under or beside the first, the pair reads as a single wall rather than two separate displays. The widest version holds up to 110 medals across three rails.
